The Campsite Nobody Can Find on a Map

A secret campsite keeps appearing in travellers’ stories across Europe. Nobody can find it on a map.

A fictional field report from the world of Nomads of Vantia.

The first account I found placed it above a lake in northern Italy. A week later, a couple travelling from Denmark described the same place—except theirs was hidden in a pine forest near the Atlantic. Then came a family who were certain they had spent three nights there somewhere beyond the last marked road in Slovenia.

Their routes do not match. Their photographs show different landscapes. The coordinates point to empty fields, closed roads and, in one case, the middle of the sea.

Yet the stories share certain details.

Nobody had booked a pitch. Nobody remembered seeing a sign from the main road. They had all arrived after taking a turn they had not planned, usually late in the day, just as they were beginning to wonder whether they should stop travelling altogether.

They describe silence. A view that made everyone step out of the campervan at once. Strangers sharing food without being asked. Children disappearing into a game and returning only when the light began to fade.

And they all remember the same name.

Vantia.

There is no official website. No booking system. No review page. Searches lead to fragments: an old photograph with no location data, a hand-drawn route that ends beyond the edge of the paper, and stories from travellers who cannot agree on which country they were in.

I started following the reports.

So far, I have crossed three mountain passes, slept beside two lakes and asked more campsite owners than I care to admit. Most laughed. Two went quiet. One looked at my map for a long time and told me I was searching in the wrong way.

He would not explain what that meant.

The newest clue is stranger still.

A small family-run board game studio called Campire Games is creating a game named Nomads of Vantia. It contains campervans, more than one hundred places across Europe, limited space, changing seasons and a destination that seems to matter less than the journey used to reach it.

Coincidence? Perhaps.

But Campire Games keeps repeating the same line:

Every road to Vantia tells a different story.

I intend to find out why.

If you have seen the name Vantia, followed a road that seemed to disappear behind you, or stayed somewhere you still cannot properly describe, leave a note.

Do not post the exact coordinates. I have learned that they rarely stay accurate for long.
